SENSORY INCLUSIVE FACILITY & PROGRAMS

The Upper Darby Arts & Education Foundation is proud to partner with Kulture City to help ensure all members of our community feel safe and welcome at the SPARC and in each of our programs. Upper Darby Summer Stage has been certified for the past couple years. Beginning in 2026, all UDAEF staff will undergo Kulture City’s training program, and all programs will operate within the established sensory inclusive guidelines.

We are excited to welcome our friends to the SPARC’s Sensory Room, specially designed by Kulture City as we were remodeling the facility. While this neurodivergent-accessible space was imagined with our Butterfly Buddies in mind, it is open to all those who need it.

While attending any of our programs inside or outside the SPARC, community members will find Kulture City Sensory Bags available to check out at the Front Desk or Box Office. We will hold your drivers license while the bag is in your possession, and we will gladly trade your ID back for the returned bag at the conclusion of the event. Each bag contains a special badge, a feelings thermometer, fidget tools, and noise-canceling headphones.

RESOURCES & ACCOMODATIONS

WHY DOES IT MATTER?

One in six people (not just children) has a sensory need. Most people’s disabilities are invisible, meaning the accompanying challenges are not always obvious. Sensory needs stem from a variety of unseen disabilities — autism, PTSD, Down Syndrome, early-onset dementia, and others. It is our desire for our entire community to feel welcome in our programs and able to enjoy our events on their comfort levels.

The mission of Kulture City is to make the “nevers” possible for all people by understanding what their needs are related to engaging with the greater community and the events and programs that bring us together.
